Artist Statement
Clinton Helms is a Virginia born Contemporary Artist/Illustrator whom work has appeared in both Solo and Group exhibitions throughout Virginia and the United Stated. Clinton has a B.F.A Degree in Communication Arts/Illustration from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA., and a M.F.A Degree in Illustration/Fine Art from Marywood University in Scranton, PA.
His work has shown at Richeson School of Art & Gallery in Kimberly, WI., the Art Center in Orange, VA, the United States Air Force Arts Museum in Dayton, Ohio, and with the Air Force Arts Program at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. For the past ten years; he has logged many studio hours focusing on building a body of work in both Acrylic and Oil paintings of landscapes, Portraits, Still-life's, and other subjects of interest to include a large number of paintings from assignments documenting training exercises for the United States Air Force.
Clinton retired from the United States Army in 2001, after serving over twenty-one years to pursue a full-time career making art.
He has taught both drawing and painting classes at Virginia State University for the past six years as an Adjunct Professor, and he currently teaches Introduction to drawing classes as an Adjunct Professor with the Arts Foundation Program in the School of Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia since 2004.
Clinton currently lives in Goochland, VA with his wife Ella B. Helms who is an Educator and Photography Artist.
